Astringent. Alteravtive. Anti-catarrhal.

Other Actions:

Tonic. Mild laxative. Alterative/depurative. Anti-inflammatory. Antibacterial. Bitter and choloretic. Uterine stimulant/ oxytocic. Amoebicidal. Astringent. Anti-haemorrhagic. Anticatarrhal. Mucous membrane trophorestorative. Vulnerary.

Dosage:

0.5 – 3ml TID

Safety:

Should not be taken for extended lengths of time due to the fact it reduces absorbption of some B vitamins.

Not to be used in pregnancy due to uterine action (canadine)

Toxic in excess dose. Do not use in high blood pressure due to constricting action on blood vessels.

Not suitable for jaundiced neonates.

Large doses can be laxative.

Do not use on ear if drum is perforated.
