For the 2023 season we are now hiring for our seasonal employee roles. We have two positions currently available with an immediate start. We are looking for one full time employee, five days a week, and one part time employee (hours flexible).
You will be working directly with our Head Grower Heiko Klee covering all aspects of propagating, growing, planting and harvesting of our amazing herbal plants in addition to our organic vegetables for culinary supply.
Experience in horticulture and in a similar role is necessary. This is outdoor work during the summer season and is quite labour intensive so a strong level of physical fitness is required. Must be able to work well within a team but also independently and able to take direction whilst bringing new ideas and suggestions to the team.
To find out more or to apply, please send your cover letter and CV to email@example.com with a subject line of “Seasonal Farm Employee”. All applications will be assessed individually and we will contact you if your skills and experience match our requirements.
At various times of the year, we hold Volunteer days at Shanbally Organic Farm. These are led by our growers under the leadership of Head Grower Heiko Klee. The day will involve getting hands on experience with the medicinal plants on the farm, in the walled garden and in the polytunnels. The work will be varied including hoeing, potting on plants weeding and harvesting crops. But remember, we are in Ireland so the work will be weather dependent!!! We recommend you bring your wellies and good humour!!
If you have an interest in herbal plants and want to learn more about them, this is a great opportunity. You will get the chance to learn and to get first hand experience. At the end of the day, after we have delivered our vegetables to Steeples Cafe, volunteers are also welcome to take home vegetables and salad from the gardens.
For further information on our Volunteer days, or to express your interest click Contact Farm. However, want to know what past volunteers and Herbal Practitioners have said about their hands-on experience at Shanbally Farm? Read below review from Delia in July 2019.
“I recommend everything that being a volunteer entails! As a clinical herbalist, being on the land, learning the manner in which to physically harvest herbs for different types of extracts is very gratifying. Seeing the herbs at different stages, the smells, the feel of them etc. plus, the lads, Brían and Heiko… well they are both such a fountain of knowledge! And despite knowing all the ity bity details about which herb is which, the soil and aspect it prefers… they are wholly open to hear the medicinal and folklore uses for the particular herbs. We have great chats whilst working, continually learning in more ways than 1. If you’ve thought about it once, I recommend, just get in the car and drive down, you honestly wont regret it”.
