Chemistry:

0.3-2% volatile oil (including sesquiterpenes bisabolol and chamazulene); bitter glycosides (anthemic acid); flavonoids- flavones glycosides (apigenin (anti-inflam), luteolin, anthemidin), coumarins (including umbelliferon and herniarin), phenolic acids, polysaccharides, mucilage, choline, amino acids, tannins, malic acid. Blue chamazulene is formed from the sesquiterpene lactone matricin during steam distillation.

Main actions:

Anti-inflammatory. Anti-spasmodic. Carminative. Bitter. Nervine.

Other Actions:

spasmolytic, vulnerary, antimicrobial, mild sedative, carminative, antiseptic, anticatarrhal, antiulcer, diaphoretic, emenagogue, anti-allergenic.

Dosage:

3 – 6ml TID

Safety:

Allergic skin reactions, contact dermatitis. Polyphenols may inhibit iron absorption. (possibly 47% from Matricaria recutita)
