     Oligomeric procyanidins (2-3%) (OPC) dimeric procyanidin procyanidin B-2 (epicatechin, trimeric procyanidin). Epicatechin

Cardioactive amines -phenethylarnine, tyramine are found in the flowers. Saponins in fruits.

      Flavanoids (1-2%)- Flavonol derivatives such as quercetin glycosides of which hyperoside and rutin are an example. Flavone derivatives such as apigenin and Flavone-C-glycosides such as vitexin and orientin

Main actions:

Cardiac tonic. Dilates blood vessels.

Other Actions:

Cardiotonic, coronary and peripheral vasodilator, has a bradycardiac effect on the myocardium, vascular tonic, hypotensive, anti-atheroma, relaxant, diuretic, astringent, mild nervine, antiarrhytmic, antioxidant, collagen stabilising

Dosage:

2 – 5ml TID

Safety:

Caution with digoxin. No contras with Warfarin. Take away from mineral supplements, thiamine and alkaloids
