This summer we will be running 3 CPD days on the farm.
These days will be led by our head grower Heiko Klee. The day will involve getting hands on experience with the plants on the farm, in the walled garden and in the polytunnels. Weather permitting, we will be harvesting a crop. Attendees will have the opportunity to harvest plants to take home for their own use. They are also welcome to take home veg and salad from the gardens.
This could be an opportunity for you to fine tune your plant identification skills and gain a better understanding of a working medicinal herb farm.
We currently grow 110 medicinal plant crops on the farm and harvest from a number of native medicinal plants and trees on the 200 acres of Shanbally estate.
Shanbally House is currently under restoration, due to be completed this year. The walled garden and lawns are also undergoing landscaping this year. We are establishing Shanbally house as a centre of excellence for herbal medicine where we will be conducting additional training for herbalists, doctors and other health care professionals. We will also be opening the house to the public to educate adults and school children on herbal medicine in Ireland, historical and current. We are also creating a herbarium at Shanbally House which will be a catalogue of all the medicinal plants grown on the farm for medicines.
