Cork Chapter Georgian Society

The Georgian Society visits Shanbally: Our guests from the ‘Cork Chapter’ departed Little Island at 9am and set sail for Tipperary, where a visit to Loughton House preceded a delightful afternoon at Shanbally. Details of their itinerary can be found here.

The afternoon involved an informative walk through the main house, courtyard and gardens. Society members were offered a unique insight into the Shanbally restoration process at a critical stage of the project.

Of the attendees, committee member Alicia St. Leger had this to say about their visit:

Shanbally was a revelation!! It was fascinating to see the house stripped back and being re-purposed… with sensitivity and re-using the original remaining features. The farmyard was amazing as it has been recently restored to the original design.  It fits perfectly into the estate. The walled garden ended our visit on a high – amazing!

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting our fellow Munster friends and enthusiasts of Georgian architecture.  We also look forward to their return once the exterior landscaping and interior finishes are complete.
